Trump Releases Files on Martin Luther King Jr’s Assassination - The Alternative News

The administration of former U.S. President Donald Trump has released a trove of documents related to the 1968 assassination of civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., despite opposition from the King family.

The files, published on Monday, form part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to declassify records tied to major political assassinations of the 1960s.

“The American people have waited nearly sixty years to see the full scope of the federal government’s investigation into Dr. King’s assassination,” said Tulsi Gabbard, the Director of National Intelligence, in a statement.

According to Gabbard, approximately 230,000 pages of documents have been released, with only minimal redactions made for privacy and security concerns.

Earlier this year, Trump signed an executive order authorizing the declassification of documents related not only to Dr. King’s murder but also to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy and his brother, Senator Robert F. Kennedy.

In March, the National Archives released files concerning President John F. Kennedy’s assassination in November 1963, followed by records in April about Robert F. Kennedy’s killing in June 1968.
