The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed a Canadian court ruling that designated it a terrorist organisation.
Reacting on Friday, APC National Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, stressed that the party is a duly registered political organisation in Nigeria operating strictly within the country’s constitutional framework.
“It is inappropriate for a foreign court to assess the operations of a political party in another country. The APC has always participated lawfully in elections, including presidential contests, and is committed to democratic principles. We do not promote ballot snatching, electoral malpractice, or violence. The actions of a few individuals should not tarnish the image of the entire party," Ibrahim said.
The ruling, delivered on June 17, 2025, by Justice Phuong Ngo, stemmed from the case of Douglas Egharevba, a former member of both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the APC. Egharevba had sought a judicial review after being declared inadmissible to Canada over alleged links between Nigerian political parties and electoral misconduct.
Ibrahim argued that the judgment disregarded Nigerian laws governing political parties.
“The APC is registered in Nigeria, not Canada, and operates transparently within our democratic system. It is meddlesome for a court abroad to define our political reality,” he said.
