Ekiti 2026: Governor Oyebanji Declares Second-Term Bid, Dismisses Crisis Rumours - The Alternative News

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has officially declared his intention to seek a second term in office ahead of the June 2026 governorship election.

Oyebanji made the announcement on Monday during a meeting with the All Progressives Congress (APC) Central Working Committee at the party secretariat in Ado-Ekiti.

He said the decision followed widespread public and political endorsements across the state, including from traditional rulers, youth groups, professional bodies, artisans, and civil society organisations.

"I have listened to you, and I am formally informing the party that I will run for a second term. I plead for your continued support and prayers," the governor said.

He also used the occasion to debunk rumours of internal crisis within the APC in Ekiti, affirming the unity of the party and acknowledging the continued leadership of former governors Niyi Adebayo and Kayode Fayemi.

"There is no crisis in the APC. We are one united family, and I remain loyal to our leaders who laid the foundation for our party," he added.

Oyebanji thanked President Bola Tinubu for his ongoing support, crediting federal economic policies for Ekiti’s development progress. He also urged citizens to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in preparation for the upcoming election.

APC State Chairman, Sola Elesin, praised Oyebanji for his inclusive leadership style and for maintaining party unity and grassroots engagement. His declaration received enthusiastic applause from party leaders and members in attendance.
