Nigerian music star, Simisola Ogunleye, popularly known as Simi, has called for disciplinary action against the airport staff who filmed and posted a viral video showing passenger Comfort Emmanson being forcefully removed from an aircraft at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
Simi, wife of fellow music star Adekunle Gold, took to social media to question why Emmanson’s indecent exposure in the footage was left unedited for millions to see. She described the act as a breach of professionalism and a violation of privacy, insisting it deserved punishment and accountability.
“So let’s say the lady is mad and did too much. Someone recorded her being dragged off the plane, recorded her being exposed like that, and then posted it without editing out this exposure or blurring it,” Simi wrote.
While much public debate has focused on Emmanson’s alleged unruly behaviour, Simi questioned the motive behind sharing the raw footage and urged sanctions against those responsible.
“I personally want to know who posted that video and why no one is holding him/her accountable… voluntarily posting her half-naked for millions of people to see when less than 10 people actually witnessed it in the first place deserves punishment too,” she added.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the incident occurred on Sunday, August 10, after Emmanson allegedly refused to turn off her phone before takeoff from Uyo to Lagos, in violation of aviation rules.
According to Ibom Air, the refusal escalated into an altercation upon arrival, during which she allegedly attacked staff. She was later handed over to the Nigerian Police Force. The viral video of her removal from the plane, however, showed her indecently exposed during the process, sparking a fresh debate about ethics and privacy in such incidents.
