Former Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh, has spoken publicly for the first time since his resignation, declaring that he has “moved on” while urging peace in the state.
PUNCH Online earlier reported that Dajoh, who served as Speaker from June 5, 2023, until August 24, 2025, resigned on Sunday amid speculations of an impeachment plot. His exit cleared the way for Alfred Emberga, a previously suspended lawmaker, who was immediately sworn in as Speaker.
In a message of appreciation posted on his official Facebook page on Monday, Dajoh thanked Governor Hyacinth Alia, members of the Assembly, his constituents, and his wife for their support throughout his tenure.
“It’s no longer news that I turned in a resignation letter as the Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly, yesterday being the 24th day of August, 2025. And I have moved on,” he wrote.
He expressed gratitude to his constituents of Gboko West (Gbemacha) for electing him into the 10th Assembly, and to his colleagues for trusting him with the speakership.
Dajoh also praised Governor Alia, stating:
“My heartfelt appreciation goes to the governor of Benue State, Rev Fr Dr Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for his support from the beginning of my being the Speaker to my exit.”
He further acknowledged the contributions of Assembly staff, aides, and his family, with a special tribute to his wife, Kundumiyol Dajoh.
“May I specially appreciate my wife, who gave me the desired love and support while in office. She is the best example of a supportive wife,” he added.
Ending on a reconciliatory note, Dajoh wrote: “Let there be peace and let’s move on. The journey is still ahead.”
