The Ogun State Government has declared Wednesday, August 20, 2025, a public holiday to mark this year’s Isese Day celebration.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed on Monday by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade.
Isese Day, dedicated to celebrating the Yoruba religion and cultural heritage, was first officially recognised as a public holiday in Ogun State in 2023 following a resolution by the State House of Assembly and approval by Governor Dapo Abiodun.
According to the statement, the holiday underscores Governor Abiodun’s commitment to preserving and promoting Yoruba traditions as an integral part of the state’s identity.
“Isese Day serves as an opportunity for adherents of the Yoruba religion to honour their ancestors, engage in traditional practices, and promote the values and teachings inherent in their spiritual beliefs.
The celebration not only fosters a sense of community among practitioners but also invites the broader society to appreciate and respect the rich cultural tapestry that the Yoruba tradition contributes to Nigeria,” the government noted.
