An Ikeja Magistrate Court in Ogba, Lagos, on Wednesday discharged Comfort Emmanson, the Ibom Air passenger accused of unruly behaviour and assault aboard a flight.
Magistrate Olanrewaju Salami freed Emmanson after police withdrew the five-count charge against her.
The decision followed consultations between Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), and stakeholders in the aviation sector. Keyamo said the move came after reviewing the incident, considering appeals from concerned individuals, and noting Emmanson’s show of remorse.
Ibom Air also withdrew its complaint over the August 10 incident.
Emmanson, arraigned on Monday, had been granted ₦500,000 bail with two sureties but was remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre after failing to meet the conditions.
At Wednesday’s hearing, prosecutor Oluwabunmi Adeitan informed the court of new developments and formally applied for the case’s withdrawal, which was granted.
Details to follow.
