Mohbad: Those Who Wrongly Accused Naira Marley Owe Him an Apology – Ex-Presidential Aide

A former Senior Special Assistant on New Media to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has weighed in on the controversy involving late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, and his former record label boss, Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley.

Ahmad, in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, reacted after Naira Marley publicly shared a documentary detailing his side of events leading up to Mohbad’s death.

According to him, he had not closely followed the case until recently, but after watching Marley’s account, which included messages, calls, videos and timelines, he now believes the artiste was wrongly accused.

He wrote: “Honestly, I wouldn’t have believed him if he hadn’t documented everything so thoroughly, messages, calls, videos and dates, from the very first day they started talking, to the very last time. It is truly a blessing when God gives you the wisdom to document every important situation in your life. That habit alone can save you from injustice and false narratives.”

The former presidential aide added that those who had condemned Marley in the wake of Mohbad’s death owed him an apology.

“Those who wrongly accused Naira Marley owe him an apology, at the very least. May Mohbad continue to rest in peace,” Ahmad stated.

In response to comments under his post, Ahmad noted that it had been difficult for many to publicly defend Naira Marley at the height of the controversy, but commended the singer for eventually speaking out.

“Until recently, coming out to stand or speak up for him was really hard. Good that he found the courage to come out publicly and share his own side of the story. Now it is up to people to choose who or what to believe. I would have wrongly accused Naira Marley if I hadn’t waited until now to hear his side of the story,” he added.

PUNCH Online reports that in the documentary released on Wednesday via the official YouTube page of Marlian Music, Naira Marley narrated Mohbad’s journey under his label, the circumstances that led to his exit, and the events surrounding his death.
