The Nigerian currency recorded its first gain in nearly a week on Thursday, August 21, 2025, according to data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Figures showed that the naira appreciated slightly to ₦1,535.78 per dollar, up from ₦1,536.73 traded on Wednesday. This represents a marginal daily gain of ₦0.95 or 0.062 percent.

At the parallel market, however, the naira remained unchanged, trading at ₦1,550 per dollar, the same rate as the previous day.

The modest improvement comes amid a steady rise in Nigeria’s external reserves, which climbed to $41.05 billion as of Wednesday, August 20, compared to $38.25 billion recorded on July 21.

Analysts say the uptick in reserves could provide some support for the naira in the short term, though market pressures remain.
