The Regional Director of the Ford Foundation in West Africa, Dr. ChiChi Aniagolu-Okoye, has called for visionary and servant leadership in Nigeria, stressing that the nation’s challenges stem from poor leadership rather than a lack of resources.
Speaking with journalists, Dr. Chichi said Nigeria requires a leader with humility, quiet strength, and clear vision to transform its vast human and material potential into progress.
According to her, Dr. Kingsman Chikelu reflects some of the qualities of transformational leadership, describing him as “moving with purpose, listening deeply, and engaging sincerely.”
“Nigeria does not lack potential; what we lack is leadership that can translate that potential into progress,” she said.
She outlined the qualities of a servant leader to include humility, the ability to listen and learn, clarity of vision, the capacity to inspire others, and a commitment to serving and empowering communities.
Dr. Chichi cited Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Rwanda as examples of countries where disciplined leadership has driven economic growth and social transformation.
She added that Nigeria could achieve similar progress if visionary leadership is embraced.
“As Nigeria awakens to the need for transformational leadership, Dr. Kingsman Chikelu’s journey serves as a beacon of hope. With quiet steps and steady progress, he embodies the qualities of a true servant leader.
“Will he be the leader Nigeria needs? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain — Nigeria’s future depends on it," she said.
