Rivers: Man Stabs Lover to Death Over Infidelity - The Alternative News

Tension gripped residents of Okereke Street in the Mile 1 Diobu area of Port Harcourt on Sunday night after a man, identified only as “Doctor,” allegedly stabbed his lover, Ima, to death over allegations of infidelity.

Eyewitnesses said the incident followed a heated argument between the couple, during which the suspect accused the victim of cheating. The altercation escalated until the man reportedly grabbed a knife and stabbed her, leading to her death from excessive bleeding.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “There was a crowd in the compound because of what happened. So the caretaker of the compound quickly rushed to the Azikiwe Police Division in Mile 2, Diobu, to make a formal complaint, and the man was arrested.”

By Monday morning, a large crowd of sympathisers had gathered outside the Azikiwe Police Division when the victim’s body was brought to the station before being taken to an undisclosed mortuary.

Confirming the incident, spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said the suspect was in custody.

“As we speak, the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Port Harcourt for discreet probe,” she stated.

Meanwhile, a human rights activist and National Coordinator of the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, Prince Wiro, condemned the killing and urged young people to avoid toxic relationships.

“No individual has the right to take the life of another person, notwithstanding the situation. We call on the police to ensure a thorough and unbiased investigation into the incident and ensure that justice is served.

I also advise young persons that a toxic relationship is not worth enduring. Know when to walk away. No relationship is more important than your life,” Wiro sai
