Security Guard, Accomplice Kill Nurse, Baby in Abuja After Collecting ₦3m Ransom - The Alternative News

A security guard, David Moses, has confessed to the gruesome killing of a school nurse, Mrs. Chinyere Anaene, and a 14-month-old baby, Nanenter Asher Yese, after collecting a ₦3 million ransom in the Dawaki area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, PUNCH ONLINE reports.

The suspect made the confession while being interrogated by detectives at the FCT Police Command, following his arrest in connection with the abduction and murder which occurred at Clear Hope Foundation Academy on July 23, 2025.

According to Moses, the act was carried out in collaboration with an accomplice identified as Sunday Irimiya, who is currently at large. He said their original ransom demand of ₦250 million was later negotiated down to ₦3 million, which the family paid — unaware the victims had already been murdered.

“What brought me here is that I killed a child with a nurse in Clear Hope School on July 23. Me and my friend demanded ₦250 million, but later settled for ₦3 million, which we collected,” Moses said.

He added that a violent dispute over sharing the ransom money led to Sunday stabbing him and fleeing with the cash. Injured and fearful for his life, Moses sought help, eventually confessing to the police after being taken to the hospital.

In his chilling confession, Moses detailed how the school nurse was lured under false pretenses to a toilet, where Sunday strangled her with a rope.

“I went to call her from her class, while Sunday was hiding in the toilet. I told her I wanted to show her something. As we were going, he came from behind and started strangling her,” he narrated.

Despite his reported reluctance, Moses claimed Sunday forced him to also retrieve the child, whom they later killed.

“He told me to bring the baby too. I said no, but he insisted. I went and brought the baby,” he said.

Moses also revealed that the nurse had shown him kindness, including giving him ₦300 for food on the day she was killed.

During questioning, Zachariah Fiyinfoluwa, a representative of the private security firm that deployed Moses to the school, admitted the company failed to properly document Moses’ employment or verify his guarantors.

“For us not to keep the record, I accept that it’s our fault,” he said, while also distancing the company from any knowledge of Sunday.

He could not confirm whether regular supervisory checks were conducted at the school, raising further questions about the company's internal oversight mechanisms.

Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, confirmed that the victims were declared missing on July 23, with the husband of the nurse receiving the ransom demand through her mobile phone the same day.

“Despite having killed the victims, they still demanded ₦3 million from the family under the pretence that the victims were alive,” CP Adewale said.

Following investigations, Moses was arrested and confessed. The police have also apprehended:the school principal,
two other security guards, and
the Chief Security Officer of the security firm.

Their arrests stemmed from suspicions of negligence and failure to enforce proper monitoring procedures at the school.

The police have launched a manhunt for Sunday Irimiya, urging the public to come forward with any useful information that could lead to his capture.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage and raised fresh concerns over the safety of children and staff in Nigerian schools, especially regarding background checks on private security personnel.
