The immediate past Rivers State Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), on Wednesday paid a visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The visit comes shortly after the cessation of the six-month emergency rule in Rivers State, during which Ibas served as administrator. He officially left office on September 17.

Ibas arrived at the State House around 6 p.m. and was ushered into the meeting by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, alongside the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede.

Although details of the closed-door discussions were not disclosed, a source close to the Presidency hinted that the talks may have centred on Ibas’ management of state affairs during the emergency period.

The meeting comes just three days after Ibas rejected attempts by the Rivers State House of Assembly to probe financial expenditures during his six-month tenure. At its first sitting following the restoration of democracy, the Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, resolved to investigate spending from the consolidated revenue fund, including contract awards and other financial decisions taken under Ibas’ administration.
