Spanish midfield legend Sergio Busquets has announced that he will retire from professional football at the end of the current Major League Soccer (MLS) season.

Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano first reported the development on Friday, revealing that the Inter Miami captain will call time on his illustrious career this October.

Busquets, 36, later confirmed the news in an emotional Instagram post, sharing a tribute video with the caption: “A heartfelt thank you to everyone, and to football, for everything. You will always be a part of this beautiful story.”

The midfield maestro, widely regarded as one of the greatest holding midfielders in football history, is celebrated for his intelligence, composure, and exceptional ability to dictate play from deep positions.

Busquets spent the bulk of his career at FC Barcelona, where he emerged from the famed La Masia academy to become a central figure in the club’s dominance of world football. He won numerous titles with the Catalan giants, including multiple La Liga trophies and three UEFA Champions League crowns.

On the international stage, Busquets was a cornerstone of Spain’s golden generation, playing a pivotal role in their triumphs at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Championships in 2008 and 2012.

His retirement marks the end of an era for a player who defined the defensive midfield role for over a decade.
