Senator Solomon Akku Ewuga, a veteran politician, lawyer, and elder statesman from Nasarawa State, has passed away. His death was confirmed by family sources in Akwanga and Nasarawa-Eggon.

Ewuga first rose to prominence in 1999 when he contested the PDP governorship primary against Abdullahi Adamu, who later became APC National Chairman. After losing the ticket, Ewuga was chosen as Adamu’s running mate. Following their election victory, he was nominated as minister from Nasarawa State, and in June 1999, President Olusegun Obasanjo appointed him Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), a position he held until 2001.

He later made multiple governorship bids—in 2003 and 2007—and went on to play a central role in Nasarawa politics. After defecting to the ANPP and then to the CPC, Ewuga allied with Tanko Al-Makura to unseat Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma in 2011. While Al-Makura became governor, Ewuga was elected senator for Nasarawa North in the 7th National Assembly.

Beyond politics, Ewuga had a career in journalism, once serving as Managing Director of the Nigerian Standard Newspaper. He earned a degree in Political Science from the University of Ibadan (1974–1977) and later studied Mass Communication at Stockholm University, Sweden.

Ewuga’s life was marked by both achievements and personal tragedies. He lost a daughter, a pilot, in a plane crash in Cameroon, and later suffered a kidnapping that left him badly injured and nearly immobile for years.

His passing marks the end of a significant chapter in Nasarawa and Nigerian politics.
