Arsenal winger Noni Madueke is expected to be out for up to two months after picking up a knee injury during the 1-1 draw against Manchester City on Sunday.
The 23-year-old England international, who joined from Chelsea in the summer, was forced off at half-time and has since undergone medical tests. While the issue is not believed to be an anterior cruciate ligament injury, doctors are waiting for swelling to reduce before confirming the full extent.
Early indications suggest a six-week layoff at minimum, meaning Madueke could be sidelined until late November. He is set to miss Arsenal’s upcoming domestic and European fixtures as well as England’s matches against Wales and Latvia, and may also be a doubt for World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania.
Should his recovery stay on track, Madueke could return in time for the north London derby against Tottenham on 23 November.
The injury comes as a significant setback for both Mikel Arteta and England boss Thomas Tuchel, with Madueke having made a bright start to the season.
