Former Vice President and presidential hopeful, Atiku Abubakar, has blamed the persistent crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on alleged interference by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking in a recent interview, Atiku accused the APC of colluding with some senior PDP leaders to weaken the opposition and frustrate efforts to build unity.

“Some senior members of the party were allegedly being used by the government to further destabilise the party, and we could see that in their actions and utterances,” he said.

Atiku explained that while he was influential within the PDP, he lacked the formal authority to resolve the party’s internal rifts.

“I was an influential person in PDP but I couldn’t fix it because I was not the chairman or secretary. I have called them and sat with them to have dialogue. Sadly, the people occupying those positions have different interests that are mostly personal to them,” he stated.

He stressed that he should not be blamed for failing to end the crisis, noting that he had no official capacity to enforce binding decisions.

“If I had the chance to fix it and didn’t, that’s when one could say I failed,” he added.

Atiku also revealed that he and other stakeholders in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) are working to build structures and increase the party’s nationwide acceptance.

When asked if he would run for president on the ADC platform, he replied:

“When the time comes, we shall see.”
