The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has attributed Nigeria’s rising insecurity to the breakdown of family values, stressing that rebuilding the family unit is key to restoring peace and stability.

Speaking on Thursday at the closing ceremony of the 2025 edition of Exercise Haske Biyu at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Jaji, Kaduna, Musa said strengthening family bonds, civic duties, and moral resilience is central to tackling the country’s security challenges.

 “The family is the bedrock of every community. Without the family, there can’t be a good community. What we have realised is that because the family system is failing, insecurity is growing. If we address family issues, insecurity will go down,” he said.

The defence chief further emphasized that parents and guardians must instil discipline, respect, and love in their children, noting that these values help nurture responsible citizens who contribute positively to society.

The exercise brought together Nigerian and international participants to explore the role of values and civic responsibility in addressing security threats.
