Former First Lady of Ghana, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, has been confirmed dead. She was the widow of Jerry John Rawlings, Ghana’s longest-serving leader, who passed away five years ago.
Reports indicate that Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings died on Thursday morning after a short illness. The news was confirmed by Ghanaian presidential spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, while tributes continue to pour in across social media platforms from citizens and political leaders alike.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was a prominent figure in Ghana’s political and social landscape. As First Lady, she founded the 31st December Women’s Movement, a non-governmental organisation named after the date of her husband’s second coup in 1981. The organisation has, for decades, worked to empower women, promote economic independence, and foster community development across the country.
Her legacy remains deeply intertwined with Ghana’s modern political history and women’s rights advocacy.
