FreeNnamdiKanu Protest: Police Urge Compliance with Court Order, Warn Against Hijackers - The Alternative News

The Ngeria Police Force has called on #FreeNnamdiKanu protesters and other groups to respect a Federal High Court order restraining demonstrations in certain parts of Abuja.

Justice M.G. Umar of the Abuja Division issued the order on October 17, 2025, in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/2202/2025 , Federal Republic of Nigeria v. Omoyele Sowore & 4 others,  barring protests within and around Aso Rock Villa, the National Assembly Complex, Force Headquarters, Court of Appeal, Eagle Square, and Shehu Shagari Way.

In a statement on Saturday, Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the police recognise citizens’ rights to peaceful assembly and expression but emphasised that such rights must be exercised responsibly and within the law.

“The Court’s intervention serves as a safeguard, not a suppression, of constitutional freedoms,” the statement noted.

The police warned both protesters and counter-protesters to avoid restricted areas and acts capable of breaching public order, assuring residents that security personnel have been deployed to protect lives, property, and ensure free traffic flow across the FCT.

The Force also cautioned that anyone found inciting violence, carrying weapons, vandalising property, or promoting unrest online would face arrest and prosecution under relevant laws.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has directed the FCT Commissioner of Police and other operational commands to enforce the court order and maintain peace.

The statement advised all organisers to avoid restricted zones, remain peaceful, and channel grievances through lawful means, assuring residents of adequate security and urging them to go about their normal activities without fear
