The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says he will testify in the ongoing trial of the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, only if he is subpoenaed by the court.
Wike stated this on Friday during his monthly media chat in Abuja, following reports that Kanu had listed him among his witnesses in the defence of his terrorism case before the Federal High Court, Abuja.
The minister clarified that he did not volunteer to be a witness and had not been served any court papers in that regard.
“If you see Nnamdi Kanu, ask him why he listed me. I did not go to him to say I want to be a witness; you are the one saying that. You don’t become a witness by reading a newspaper. Nobody has served me process; nobody has subpoenaed me," Wike said.
He, however, stressed that he would honour the court’s order if formally summoned to testify.
“If I am served, if I am subpoenaed to come and give evidence, I must obey the court, I must appear,” he added.
Earlier in the week, Kanu informed the Federal High Court that he would open his defence on Friday, October 24, 2025, and intended to call 23 witnesses, including Wike, former Minister of Defence Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd), and former Chief of Army Staff Gen. Tukur Buratai (retd).
