Senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has explained why he no longer wears his trademark khaki outfits to the Senate chamber.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Friday, the former Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) president dismissed claims that political office had changed his style. He revealed that he had been cautioned several times by Senate officials against wearing khaki to plenary sessions.

According to Oshiomhole, the decision was purely a matter of complying with Senate rules, which stipulate a formal dress code for lawmakers.

“The ‘senator’ wear thing I need to clear it. I watched one analysis where it was said that power changes people, that even Oshiomhole no longer wears khaki. Do you know that I am not allowed, with all my human rights, to wear those khaki to the Senate? Because they have a dress code,” he said.

He added that during his early days at the National Assembly, he was warned repeatedly that “this is not the labour office,” prompting him to abandon the attire that had become symbolic of his labour activism years.
