Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State is on the verge of joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the dissolution of the party’s structure in the state by the National Working Committee (NWC).

In a major shake-up announced on Thursday, the APC national leadership appointed Dr. Ben Nwoye as the new caretaker chairman of the party in Enugu State. Nwoye, a former state chairman of the party, met with Governor Mbah earlier today in what party insiders described as a “strategic reconciliation and realignment meeting” ahead of the governor’s formal defection to the ruling party.

The development comes shortly after the resignation of Uche Nnaji, former Minister of Science and Technology and the APC’s 2023 governorship candidate in Enugu. Nnaji’s exit, reportedly linked to a certificate scandal, is believed to have removed the last major obstacle to Governor Mbah’s entry into the APC.

Party sources revealed that Nnaji had long resisted efforts to integrate the Enugu governor into the APC fold, leading to internal divisions within the state chapter. His resignation has now paved the way for a complete restructuring of the party’s leadership in the state.

With the dissolution of the state executive committee and the appointment of a caretaker team led by Nwoye, Governor Mbah is expected to emerge as the new leader of the APC in Enugu State.

A formal declaration event, according to party officials, will be held in the coming days to officially welcome Governor Mbah into the ruling party.
