Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has urged his players to improve defensively after a dramatic 2-1 loss to defending champions Paris Saint-Germain in their Champions League group stage clash on Wednesday night.

At the Olympic Stadium, PSG snatched victory in the 90th minute, when Achraf Hakimi broke free on the right and set up Gonçalo Ramos for the winner.

Flick admitted his team struggled against Luis Enrique’s side, highlighting the gulf in quality and discipline:

 “With the score at 1-1, you have to defend better, have a better structure in defence. We will learn this, and we have to make it better next time against this quality of team.”

The German coach acknowledged PSG deserved the win, saying Barça were “below their best” and could not match the European champions on the night.

Barcelona’s defensive frailties have become a recurring problem; last season, they were eliminated in the semi-finals by Inter Milan, conceding seven goals across two legs.

 “There is no point in saying we are on the same level (today), but I believe in my team. We train to get better and better, and this game will help us a lot. The whole team has to defend, the whole team has to attack," Flick said.

He praised PSG’s structure, quality, and speed, but insisted his squad could rise to that level when performing at their best:

“We could see today how the level of PSG is. I’m 100 per cent sure we can play like this.”
