24 Abducted Kebbi Schoolgirls Rescued, Handed Over to Governor Idris - The Alternative News

Twenty-four students of Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School (GGCSS), Maga, abducted by bandits last week, have been rescued and formally handed over to the Governor of Kebbi State, Dr. Nasir Idris.

This is contained in a statement signed by Yahaya Sarki, Special Adviser (Media & Publicity) to the Governor of Kebbi State on Wednesday.

The girls were received in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday night by the governor, following their release by troops of the Nigerian military. The handover was conducted by the Theatre Commander, Major General W. B. Idris, in line with directives from the Minister of State for Defence, Muhammad Bello Matawalle.

Major General Idris said troops launched a swift and coordinated operation immediately after the abduction, identifying Magiga Forest as the location where the students were held. The forest was cordoned off and all exit routes blocked during the rescue mission.

“On the 19th of this month, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed the Minister of State for Defence to relocate to Kebbi to ensure the full return of all abducted schoolgirls. I am happy to present the 24 recovered victims today. They are all here, hale and hearty, no deaths, no injuries,” he stated.

He recommended comprehensive medical examinations for the students to assess their health condition.

Governor Idris, while receiving the girls, expressed gratitude to God, President Tinubu, and the military for their swift response and coordination. He assured that the rescued girls would undergo proper medical evaluation before being reunited with their families.

He also extended appreciation to Nigerians, including religious leaders and other well-wishers, for their prayers and support throughout the ordeal.
