President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday declared a nationwide security emergency in response to escalating insecurity across the country, directing an immediate expansion of Nigeria’s security workforce.

In a statement released from the State House, President Tinubu ordered the Nigeria Police Force to recruit 20,000 additional officers, raising the administration’s total planned police intake to 50,000 personnel.

The president also approved the use of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camps as temporary training facilities to fast-track the process, ensuring recruits are deployed as quickly as possible to troubled areas.

The directive forms part of a broader emergency security initiative aimed at strengthening policing capacity, improving rapid response, and restoring public confidence amid rising incidents of kidnapping, banditry and violent crime.
