The Ogun State Government has assured residents that ongoing road reconstruction projects across the state will soon be completed, urging them to remain patient as work progresses.
The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, gave the assurance during an inspection tour of the ongoing reconstruction of roads at Itori and the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state.
Engr. Akinsanya explained that several of the roads currently undergoing reconstruction were previously impassable before the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration assumed office in 2019. He noted that the present government has made significant efforts to restore the affected roads, emphasizing that road construction takes time to achieve durable results.
“Before this administration came on board, the road was totally impassable. The Sango-Ota area was like a swimming pool. We made tremendous efforts on that, but unfortunately, road reconstruction is not a one-day operation. it takes time,” he said.
“In the process of speeding up the work, we had to carry out some construction activities during the rainy season, which, if I had a choice, I would have avoided,” he added.
Speaking on the adoption of concrete pavement for the Ewekoro axis, the Commissioner explained that it was designed to strengthen the road and reduce the effects of a high water table, thereby minimizing future inconveniences.
Akinsanya reiterated the government’s commitment to fixing bad roads to make them motorable, disclosing that the recent gridlock experienced along the corridor has been resolved.
“The viral video circulating on social media does not represent the true situation of the road. Work is ongoing and will continue until completion,” he clarified.
He appealed to residents and motorists to be patient and to drive cautiously, especially during the rainy season, assuring that the roads would be completed as soon as possible.
Also speaking, Mr. Pierre Andary, the Project Manager in charge of the Itori–Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway project, said that asphalt laying has commenced, with the project now over 50 percent completed. He pledged to deliver the work by the end of 2026.
Similarly, Mr. Jason Zhang, the Project Manager handling the Magboro-Makogi Road, confirmed that work is ongoing, commended motorists and the state government for their cooperation and support towards timely completion.
Speaking on behalf of residents, Mr. Uche Okoro and Alhaji Wasiu Sanusi expressed appreciation to the state government for the ongoing projects, noting that the developments would ease their hardships and boost the area’s economic activities.
Other roads inspected include the 8.17km Magboro-Makogi Road, Akute–Alagbole Road, 9.2km Oke-Aro-Agbado Road, as well as roads in Ewekoro, Papalanto, Ifo, and Ota.
