The Ogun State Government has assured residents that ongoing road reconstruction projects across the state will soon be completed, urging them to remain patient as work progresses.
The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, gave the assurance during an inspection tour of the ongoing reconstruction of roads at Itori, along the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway, in Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.
Akinsanya explained that many of the roads currently under reconstruction were previously impassable before the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration assumed office in 2019. He noted that the present government has made significant strides in restoring the affected roads, emphasizing that durable road construction requires time and careful planning.
“Before this administration came on board, the road was totally impassable. The Sango-Ota area was like a swimming pool. We made tremendous efforts on that, but unfortunately, road reconstruction is not a one-day operation, it takes time,” he said.
He added that some construction activities had to be carried out during the rainy season to fast-track the work despite the challenges.
Speaking on the use of concrete pavement for the Ewekoro axis, the Commissioner explained that the approach was adopted to strengthen the road and minimize the impact of the area’s high water table, thereby reducing future maintenance issues.
Akinsanya reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring all bad roads are fixed and made motorable, disclosing that the recent gridlock experienced along the corridor had been resolved.
“The viral video circulating on social media does not represent the true situation of the road. Work is ongoing and will continue until completion,” he clarified.
He appealed to residents and motorists to be patient and drive cautiously, particularly during the rainy season, assuring that the roads would be completed as soon as possible.
Also speaking, Mr. Pierre Andary, Project Manager of the Itori-Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway project, revealed that asphalt laying had commenced, noting that the project was over 50 percent completed and scheduled for delivery by the end of 2026.
Also, Mr. Jason Zhang, Project Manager handling the Magboro-Makogi Road, confirmed ongoing work, commended motorists and the state government for their cooperation toward timely completion.
In their remarks, residents, Mr. Uche Okoro and Alhaji Wasiu Sanusi expressed appreciation to the state government for the ongoing efforts, noting that the projects would ease their hardships and boost economic activities in the area.
Other roads inspected during the tour include the 8.17km Magboro-Makogi Road, Akute-Alagbole Road, 9.2km Oke-Aro-Agbado Road as well as Papalanto, which cut across Abeokuta North, Ado-Odo/Ota, Ifo, and Ewekoro Local Government Areas of the state.
