Over 3,000 Delegates, Governors Storm Ibadan as PDP Kicks Off 2025 National Convention - The Alternative News

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday officially commenced its 2025 Elective National Convention, tagged #Ibadan2025, at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

According to the party, more than 3,000 delegates, including state governors, members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), Board of Trustees (BoT) members, former office holders, and other key stakeholders from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, have arrived in Ibadan for the two-day event.

The convention, taking place from November 15 to 16, will climax with the election of a new National Working Committee (NWC), including a National Chairman, who will lead the PDP into the 2027 general elections. This was confirmed in a statement released by Babangida Umar via the party’s official X handle on Saturday.

This year’s convention follows months of internal disputes, legal challenges, and factional disagreements, with some groups seeking court orders and INEC intervention to halt the exercise. Despite the controversies, the party maintained that the convention would proceed as scheduled.

The PDP also described Ibadan as a “fitting host city,” citing its upgraded infrastructure and world-class facilities, and drawing comparisons with the party’s historic 1998 convention in Jos, which set the foundation for its rise to national prominence.
