The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has disowned the report submitted by its Reconciliation Committee, insisting that the party’s national convention scheduled for Saturday and Sunday in Ibadan will go ahead as planned.

The committee, led by Ambassador Hassan Adamu and inaugurated on November 5, 2025, had recommended the formation of an all-inclusive caretaker committee, citing multiple court orders and the likelihood that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would not monitor the convention under the current legal circumstances. It warned that a disputed convention could jeopardise the party’s ability to field candidates nationwide.

The BoT, however, in a statement issued Friday by its Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, dismissed the committee’s recommendations, saying the report was neither considered nor adopted by the Board and therefore does not reflect its official position.

Wabara stressed that the BoT fully supports the elective national convention scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, citing a Supreme Court judgment that upholds a political party’s right to manage its internal affairs without judicial interference. He added that the idea of a caretaker committee was unacceptable.

The PDP remains divided between two factions led by Ambassador Umar Damagum and Abdulrahman Muhammed. While the Damagum group insists on proceeding with the convention, the Abdulrahman faction canceled it, relying on a Federal High Court order restraining the party.

Meanwhile, the legal battle over the convention continued on Friday at the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan. INEC’s counsel, O. Adeyemi, argued that the court lacked jurisdiction since INEC is a federal agency. But counsel to the claimant, Musibau Adetumbi (SAN), countered that the objection violated the claimant’s fundamental rights, insisting that INEC does not fall exclusively under the Federal High Court’s jurisdiction.

Justice Ladiran Akintola adjourned ruling on the objection to December 8, 2025, while affirming that the earlier interim order preventing interference with preparations for the convention remains in force.

The defendants in the suit include the PDP, its acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri (Chairman of the Convention Organising Committee), and INEC.

The court had earlier extended its interim order to ensure the convention proceeds pending further hearings.
