The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a sweeping decision at its national convention in Ibadan, dissolving all party structures in Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers States.

The announcement was made during Saturday’s convention session where major decisions on the party’s reorganisation were presented to delegates.

According to leaders at the gathering, the move followed a motion by the host governor, Seyi Makinde, who urged the convention to ratify executive committees elected in states and zones where congresses had been successfully concluded.

Makinde told delegates that the congresses, conducted nationwide between 2024 and 2025, produced officials from ward to zonal levels, including national ex-officio members. He stressed that the exercises complied with the Electoral Act 2022, the PDP constitution, and the party’s internal guidelines.

He noted that both the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Working Committee (NWC) had earlier endorsed the conduct of the congresses and the officers who emerged, describing the process as free, fair, and credible in the states where they held without disruption.

However, Makinde said the situation in five states was significantly different.

“In the case of Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers, the Convention hereby dissolves all party structures at the ward, local government, and state levels. The Convention has authorized the publication of this decision to serve as official notice to the public,” he declared.

The motion received additional procedural support from the National Auditor and NWC member, Daniel Obiechina Okechukwu, clearing the path for its formal adoption.
