Tension heightened at the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja on Tuesday as two rival factions of the party scheduled separate meetings for the same venue and time.

Armed policemen and patrol vehicles were deployed to the Wadata Plaza secretariat early in the morning, following days of deepening internal crises within the party.

A faction loyal to Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, had on Monday announced an emergency meeting of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Executive Committee (NEC). The notice, issued by the factional National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, was circulated widely on social media by Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka. The meeting was slated for Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at the NEC Hall of the PDP Secretariat.

However, a rival faction aligned with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, also fixed a separate meeting for the same date and venue, a move that raised concerns about a potential clash between supporters of both camps.

The escalation comes just days after the PDP national convention in Ibadan expelled Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, and former National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu from the party. Their expulsion followed a motion moved by former National Vice Chairman (South), Chief Olabode George, and seconded by Samaila Buga, Chairman of the PDP in Bauchi State.
