President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of 32 new ambassadors, comprising 15 career and 17 non-career diplomats, with 10 women included across both categories.
The president’s latest nominations, forwarded to the Senate for screening and confirmation, come just days after an initial batch of three nominees was sent to represent Nigeria in the United States, the United Kingdom and France.
Among the newly listed non-career ambassadors are prominent figures including: Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode; Former Presidential Aide, Reno Omokri; Former INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu; Former Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; Former Ekiti First Lady, Erelu Angela Adebayo;
Former Oyo First Lady, Florence Ajimobi;
Former Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu.
According to presidency sources, the new envoys are expected to be posted to key countries and multilateral institutions, including China, India, the UAE, Canada, South Africa, the United Nations, the African Union and UNESCO.
In a statement posted on X, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that the president had earlier nominated non-career ambassadors for the US, UK and France, forming the first batch of diplomatic postings.
More ambassadorial nominations are expected to be released in the coming days, according to the presidency.
