A wave of fear has swept through the Zuru Emirate in Kebbi State after armed bandits launched a deadly attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS), Maga, in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, killing the Vice Principal and abducting an undisclosed number of students.
The attack, which occurred late at night, claimed the life of Vice Principal Malam Hassan Yakubu Makuku, who was reportedly shot while attempting to protect his students from the assailants.
Residents say the gunmen invaded the school without resistance, unleashing terror and plunging the community into panic and grief.
A local witness, Murjanatu Hassan Gishiri, described the incident as devastating, saying “It is a heartbreaking tragedy that has thrown the entire region into deep fear and mourning.”
The deceased vice principal has been praised by community members as a dedicated educator who often put the safety and welfare of his students above his own.
As of now, security agencies have not released an official statement or confirmed the number of students abducted. Locals are calling on state and federal authorities to take swift action to rescue the kidnapped students and strengthen security around schools and vulnerable communities.
