2027: Peter Obi Defects to ADC - The Alternative News

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, has formally defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant shift in Nigeria’s political landscape.

The defection was announced on Wednesday at a political gathering held at the Nike Lake Resort in Enugu State.

The event attracted party leaders, political stakeholders, and supporters from across the South-East region.

The gathering signals a major realignment ahead of future elections, particularly in the South-East, where Obi commands substantial grassroots support. His supporters were seen arriving early at the venue, chanting solidarity songs and displaying party insignia, creating a charged and celebratory atmosphere.

Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, contested the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the Labour Party, finishing third but emerging as a formidable political force, especially among young voters and urban populations nationwide.

Since the election, he has remained politically active and has repeatedly hinted at contesting the presidency again in 2027 on what he described as a broader and more inclusive platform.

Sources within the ADC described Obi’s defection as a strategic boost for the party, noting that his national appeal, disciplined image, and strong youth following could significantly enhance the party’s electoral prospects.

Party leaders present at the event hailed the development as a turning point for the ADC, expressing confidence that Obi’s entry would strengthen the party’s structure and competitiveness ahead of future elections.
