Dangote Petitions ICPC Over Alleged Corruption by NMDPRA Boss - The Alternative News

Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has filed a petition with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) against the Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Ahmed Farouk, accusing him of corruption and financial impropriety.

The petition, submitted on December 16 and received by the ICPC Chairman, Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN), calls for Farouk’s arrest, investigation, and prosecution over allegations that he has been living far beyond his lawful income as a public servant.

Dangote alleged that Farouk spent over $7 million on the education of his four children in Switzerland, paying upfront school fees covering a six-year period. The petition reportedly listed the children, their schools, and the amounts paid to aid verification by the anti-graft agency.

According to Dangote, Farouk has spent his entire adult working life in Nigeria’s public sector and could not have legitimately earned such an amount. He further accused the NMDPRA boss of allegedly using his position to embezzle and divert public funds for personal benefit, actions which he said had contributed to public unrest and protests in recent times.

Dangote argued that the alleged conduct amounts to abuse of office, corrupt enrichment, embezzlement, and breach of the Code of Conduct for public officers, offences punishable under Section 19 of the ICPC Act, which carries a possible five-year jail term without an option of fine upon conviction.

He urged the ICPC to act decisively in the interest of justice and to protect the image of the Tinubu administration, stressing that the matter is already in the public domain.
