The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has distributed N200,000 each to 250 elderly citizens in Ogun State as part of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Elderly Support Scheme.
The event, themed "Finding Joy with Old Age," took place at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, recognizing the contributions of senior citizens to nation-building.
Senator Tinubu, represented by Ogun State First Lady, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun, said the initiative reflects the administration's commitment to ensuring senior citizens live with dignity and comfort.
"The scheme will benefit 9,500 citizens across Nigeria, with N1.9 billion disbursed. Each state, including the FCT, will receive N50 million," Senator Tinubu stated.
In her welcome address, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Adijat Adeleye emphasized the importance of supporting elderly citizens, advising the beneficiaries to utilise the financial support judiciously.
The Founder of Yoruba Nurses of North America (YORNNA), Prof. Modupeola Aka-Bashorun Adebayo, while delivering a health talk, urged beneficiaries to prioritize health checks, especially for breast and prostate cancer, reiterating that early detection could be the difference between life and death.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Adebunmi Ajayi and Mr. Tajudeen Adetayo praised the gesture as a soothing balm to their economic aches, thanking the First Lady of the Federation and the State and promising to use the funds responsibly.
