The Ogun State Government under the leadership of Prince Dapo Abiodun has been commended for prioritising teachers’ welfare over the past six years.
The commendation was given by the Chairman of the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, during the send-off ceremony for retired members of the Association of Primary School Headteachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON), Ogun State Chapter. The event that took place at the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Hall, Kuto, Abeokuta.
Evangelist Ifede, described the commendation as a testament to the State government’s invaluable contributions to the development of primary education in Ogun State and the growth of AOPSHON to greater heights.
Represented by the Permanent Member III of the Board, Hon. Abiodun Ajayi, the SUBEB Chairman said Governor Abiodun was a “promise keeper,” stressing that he had never for once taken the welfare of teachers for granted.
He congratulated the retired head teachers on their meritorious service to the State and urged them to continue to support the present administration with prayers to ensure its success.
In their remarks, the State Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Sewakanu Noah and the State Chairman, Association of Primary School Headteachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON), Comrade Folake Onabajo, noted that the retired primary school headteachers had worked tirelessly for the growth and progress of the association at both zonal and state levels, making it necessary to honour, recognise and appreciate them.
They also commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for his unwavering love for workers and his enormous contributions to the upliftment of education in the State.
In his goodwill message, the Chairman of the Parents’ Forum, Reverend Folorunso, appreciated Governor Abiodun for approving career elongation for teachers in the State up to Grade Level 17, describing the policy as a major boost to morale within the education sector.
