New Defence Minister Musa Assumes Office, Meets Service Chiefs - The Alternative News

Newly appointed Minister of Defence and former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa (retd.), on Friday formally assumed duties at the Ministry of Defence headquarters, Ship House, Abuja.

Musa, whose appointment was confirmed by the Senate on Thursday after his nomination by President Bola Tinubu, arrived at about 11:10 a.m. and was received with full military honours, including an inspection of the quarter guard in keeping with military tradition. His appointment follows the recent resignation of former Minister of Defence, Muhammed Badaru.

After taking charge, the minister proceeded to a closed-door meeting with the service chiefs and top directors of the ministry.

Speaking earlier on Thursday after taking the oath of office administered by President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Musa assured Nigerians that the Federal Government’s renewed security strategies would yield visible results soon.

He stated that his immediate priority is to strengthen the nation’s defence architecture and enhance collaboration among all security agencies.

“My immediate priority is to make sure that defence takes its place fully in the country,” he said, stressing that security is a collective responsibility.

General Musa expressed confidence that improved synergy and better coordination across security formations would accelerate efforts to address the country’s security challenges.

“It is that synergy that we need to build on and work on, and that’s what we are going to do. I can assure you, within the shortest possible time, Nigerians will see results,” he added.
