The All Progressives Congress (APC) screening committee has disqualified former National Secretary of the party, Senator Iyiola Omisore, along with six other aspirants, from contesting the Osun State governorship primary slated for December 13.
According to the committee, the affected aspirants were barred after gaps and irregularities were detected in the nomination documents they submitted during the screening exercise.
The screening panel, chaired by Chief Obinna Uzoh, underscored the importance of unity within the party ahead of the primary. Uzoh appealed to party stakeholders to reconcile differences and work together to strengthen the APC’s internal structure in the state.
In its report presented on Friday, the committee explained that the disqualified aspirants failed to meet the minimum standards required for the nomination process. While the complete list of those barred was not immediately released, Omisore’s name was confirmed among them.
The committee further stressed that addressing internal disputes was crucial to ensuring a credible primary and boosting the party’s chances in the upcoming governorship election.
While the APC primary is scheduled for December 13, the official governorship election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will hold on August 8, 2026.
The panel urged party members to throw their support behind the qualified aspirants and avoid activities that could polarize the party as it prepares for the polls.
