Senate Confirms 64 Ambassadors, Assures Zamfara of Inclusion - The Alternative News

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointment of 64 ambassadors, comprising 34 career diplomats and 30 non-career nominees.

Naija News reports that the confirmation took place during plenary on Thursday following the presentation of a report by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, chaired by Senator Sani Bello. The chamber subsequently adopted the committee’s recommendations.

During the session, Senator Sahabi Yau raised an objection, drawing attention to the absence of any nominee from Zamfara State on the list. He urged the Senate to formally notify President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the omission.

Responding, the Senate President acknowledged the concern and explained that the list presented was not exhaustive. He assured lawmakers that the matter would be brought to the President’s attention, adding that additional ambassadorial nominations are expected and that Zamfara State would not be excluded.

Among the career ambassadors confirmed are: Arewa Esther (Oyo State),
Adeola-Ibrahim Mopelola (Ogun State),
Ramat Omonbolale (Lagos State),
Monica Okechukwu Enebechi (Anambra State), Adams Jane Basset (Cross River State), Mohammed Lele (Bauchi State),
Muhammad Dahiru (Kaduna State).

The list of non-career ambassadors includes: Ajimobi Florence (Oyo State),
Sulola Akande (Oyo State), Uguwanyi Ifeanyi (Enugu State), Ita Enang (Akwa Ibom State), Femi Fani-Kayode (Osun State), Jerry Manwe (Taraba State), Reno Omokri (Delta State), Ibas Ibok-Ette (Cross River State), Abdulrahman Dambazzau (Kano State), Abas Braimah (Edo State),

The Senate had earlier confirmed three other non-career ambassadors, bringing the total number of confirmed ambassadorial nominees to 67.
