Yoruba Agitation: Police Arrest Eight Over Road Blockade, Assault in Ogun - The Alternative News

 


The Ogun State Police Command has arrested eight persons over alleged breach of public peace, unlawful assembly, obstruction of traffic, and assault on police officers in parts of Sango-Ota, Ogun State.

The suspects were arrested following a disturbance reportedly linked to a group operating under the name Democratic Republic of the Yoruba.

Confirming the incident in a statement on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the disturbance occurred on Thursday, December 25, 2025 (Christmas Day), at Temidire Junction and the Under-Bridge area of Sango-Ota.

According to him, members of the group unlawfully barricaded major roads, set bonfires, disrupted the free flow of traffic, and attacked police officers deployed to maintain law and order.

“On 25th December 2025, Christmas Day, at Temidire Junction and Under-Bridge, Sango-Ota, a group agitating under the aegis of ‘Democratic Republic of the Yoruba’ unlawfully barricaded roads, set bonfires, disrupted vehicular movement, and assaulted police officers,” Babaseyi stated.

He added that upon receiving reports of the disturbance, police operatives were swiftly mobilised to the affected areas, where they dispersed the group and effected arrests.

The arrested suspects were identified as Adewale Sosanya (48), Opeyemi Oladotun (31), Zara Gabriel (22), Ajoke Gabriel (19), Adewale Adebomojo (48), Yusuf Tanimowo (40), Olurotimi Ademola (52), and Toyin Gabriel (40).

The police also recovered several items from the suspects, including a Toyota Dyna vehicle allegedly used to convey them, two broadcast speakers, a carton containing flags and shirts bearing inscriptions of their agitation, as well as banners displaying their messages and manifesto.

DSP Babaseyi disclosed that investigations are ongoing and assured that the suspects would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the probe.
