Mozambique President, Daniel Francisco Chapo, has congratulated the Mambas for qualifying for the round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco and has promised an extraordinary bonus should they defeat Nigeria, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The Mambas booked a clash with one of the tournament’s most impressive sides, Nigeria, after finishing third in Group F, despite a 2–1 loss to Cameroon in their final group match.
In a message issued on Thursday and addressed to the players and coaching staff, President Chapo praised the team’s performance in the group stage, describing their qualification as unprecedented and highly meritorious.
He noted that the achievement had filled the nation with pride and, speaking on behalf of the Mozambican people, commended the players and technical crew for their courage, discipline, and determination in reaching a new milestone on the continental stage.
According to Jornal Notícias, the President announced an extraordinary bonus of 500,000 meticais, approximately ₦11.3 million, for each player and member of the coaching staff if they defeat the Super Eagles and advance to the quarter-finals.
President Chapo reaffirmed that the entire nation stands firmly behind the team and expressed confidence in their ability to overcome Nigeria.
Nigeria and Mozambique will face off at the Complexe Sportif de Fès on Monday, January 5, with kickoff scheduled for 8:00 pm.
