Popular gospel singer and evangelist, Bunmi Akinnaanu, widely known as Omije Ojumi, has passed away.

The news of her death was announced on Tuesday via Instagram by her colleague, Alayo Melody, who shared a statement issued on behalf of her family. 

According to the statement, the gospel minister died on January 12, 2026, at a hospital in Lagos, Nigeria. The family statement, signed by Olawale Akinnaanu, read:

“With great sadness, we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnaanu Adeoye (Omije Ojumi), who passed away on January 12, 2026, at a Lagos hospital.

May God grant her eternal rest.”

Bunmi Akinnaanu was well known in Christian and gospel music circles for her spiritually uplifting songs, including “Omije Oju Mi” and “O Ti Sure,” which gained wide acceptance in churches and worship gatherings across the country.

In the months leading up to her death, concerns grew over her health as videos circulated online showing her battling a serious illness that affected her leg. At various times, fellow gospel artistes and fans rallied around her, offering prayers and seeking financial support to assist with her medical treatment.

Her passing has sparked an outpouring of grief across the gospel music community. Colleagues and admirers have taken to social media to pay tribute, describing her as a dedicated gospel minister whose music and ministry impacted many lives.
