Ineligible Players: FIFA to Decide on Nigeria’s Petition Against DR Congo in February | The Alternative News

World football governing body, FIFA, is expected to deliver its verdict next month on Nigeria’s petition against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) following their 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff encounter, SCORENigeria has reliably gathered.

In recent days, reports have emerged suggesting “positive vibes” surrounding the petition filed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) against DRC.

The NFF alleged that the Congolese team fielded several ineligible players during the decisive World Cup playoff match held in Rabat, Morocco, in November. As a result, Nigeria is demanding that DRC be disqualified from the World Cup qualifiers.

DR Congo secured qualification for the Intercontinental Playoffs after defeating Nigeria 4–3 on penalties, following a 1–1 draw at the end of extra time.

The Congolese side is scheduled to face the winner of the playoff tie between Jamaica and New Caledonia in March in Mexico, pending FIFA’s final decision on the matter.
