Explosions Rock Iran as United States, Israel Claim Responsibility | The Alternative News

The United States and Israel on Saturday launched coordinated strikes on targets in Iranian cities, triggering explosions and thick smoke over the capital, Tehran.

US President Donald Trump confirmed the attacks in a video message, saying American forces had begun “major combat operations” aimed at eliminating what he described as imminent threats from Iran.

“We are going to destroy their missiles and raze their missile industry to the ground,” Trump said, warning of further action against Iran’s naval forces.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz described the strikes as a “preventive action.”

Iranian state television reported that President Masoud Pezeshkian was “safe and sound.” The Fars news agency said seven missile impacts were recorded in the Keshvardoost and Pasteur districts of Tehran.

Journalists in Tehran reported hearing multiple blasts and seeing smoke rising from parts of the city. Iran’s health ministry said ambulances were deployed but gave no immediate casualty figures.
Following the strikes, Iran, Iraq and Israel closed their airspaces to civilian traffic.

US embassies in Qatar and Bahrain advised American citizens to take shelter, while sirens sounded in Jerusalem and Israeli authorities issued mobile alerts.

The development came a day after US and Iranian officials held talks in Geneva, mediated by Oman, over Tehran’s nuclear and missile programmes.

Oman’s Foreign Minister, Badr Albusaidi, said Iran had agreed to zero uranium stockpiling and to convert existing stockpiles into fuel. However, Trump earlier expressed dissatisfaction, saying Iran was “not willing to give us what we have to have.”

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said progress required “seriousness and realism” and warned against miscalculation.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to travel to Israel on Monday for further discussions.

The International Atomic Energy Agency said it would hold technical discussions with Iran and urged Tehran to cooperate constructively.
