The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained former Kaduna State governor, Nasir el-Rufai, over alleged financial improprieties, sources told TheCable.
According to insiders, el-Rufai, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), voluntarily presented himself at the EFCC headquarters on Monday following an invitation by the anti-graft agency.
Sources within the commission disclosed that the former governor will spend the night in custody as investigators continue to question him over alleged financial dealings during his tenure in office.
El-Rufai served as governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023.
“He is in our custody and is going to spend the night,” a source familiar with the development said.
Another source indicated that the former governor may be released on Tuesday after further interrogation, depending on the outcome and progress of ongoing investigations.
