Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has expressed confidence that the crisis that rocked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is now over, following the expulsion of key figures accused of destabilising the party.
Makinde spoke on the sidelines of the 50th anniversary celebration of Oyo State, where he said those responsible for fomenting internal crises within the PDP were expelled in November 2025.
Recall that the PDP, at its elective national convention held on November 16, 2025, expelled the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, and the party’s embattled National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.
The convention, which produced the expulsions, was organised and led by Makinde in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Describing the expelled members as “vagabonds,” Makinde said they had operated unchecked within the party for nearly a decade but had now been subdued.
“In Yorubaland, we say if you see a house or compound that is peaceful, it means the vagabond in that house has not grown up,” he said.
“The vagabonds in the PDP grew up in 2015. They had their time—ten years, a full decade—and they practised their vagabondism in the PDP. But they have been expelled in November 2025, so there are no more vagabonds in the PDP.”
Makinde added that those expelled were now politically irrelevant.
“They are wearing rags, dancing in the midnight. Don’t worry, day will soon break for them,” he said.
The governor admitted that he was once aligned with the expelled group but said he had since distanced himself and refocused on rebuilding the party.
“In 2015, when PDP lost power at the federal level, there was a leadership vacuum. Otherwise, those vagabonds would never have taken hold of the party,” he noted.
“Let me confess: I came into government in 2019, and towards 2023, I was yoked with them, but now I have repented. I am born again.”
Makinde stressed that he would not allow the PDP to be weakened to the advantage of rival parties.
“For them to hold PDP so another party can remain in power? It is a no, no, no,” he declared.
