Ogun DFA Olanrewaju Taiwo Becomes Bishop, Pledges Continued Dedication | The Alternative News

A Director of Finance and Accounts (DFA) in the Ogun State Civil Service and Presiding Pastor of Mercy City International Christian Church, Abeokuta, Rev. (Dr.) Olanrewaju Taiwo, has been elevated to the office of Charismatic and Presiding Bishop of the church.

The consecration ceremony was held at the church auditorium, Laderin Estate, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the ceremony, Bishop Taiwo reflected on his spiritual journey, noting that it has been 32 years since his divine encounter with Jesus Christ, which marked the beginning of his ministry. He reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving faithfully and remain dedicated to God’s calling.

The newly consecrated Bishop expressed gratitude to the church leadership for the confidence reposed in him, promising to discharge his duties with righteousness, integrity, and unwavering commitment.

Delivering the sermon at the event, the Apostolic Father and Prelate of the Church of God in Christ, Southern Nigeria Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction (COGIC), Bishop (Dr.) Henry Praise, emphasized that elevation comes from God and is not automatic.

He stated that elevation is not primarily dependent on educational qualifications or performance, but on God’s grace and mercy. According to him, “Some may not fast or pray fervently, yet they are successful in life. God is the lifter of our heads, and our lifting is sacred.”

Bishop Praise urged the new Bishop to remain humble and submissive to Jesus Christ, advising him to “raise his head and not his shoulders,” symbolizing confidence without pride.

Also speaking, Bishop Bernard Uzor outlined the responsibilities of a Bishop, explaining that a Bishop has general pastoral oversight of all people within his diocese and is called to uphold and care for fellow ministers. He added that a Bishop must know his people and be known by them, promote spiritual unity within the diocese, and work with fellow bishops to maintain the unity, discipline, and faith of the Church.

The ceremony was attended by clergy members, church leaders, family members, and well-wishers who gathered to witness the significant spiritual milestone.
