SUBEB Charges Newly Elected AOPSHON Executives on Academic Excellence | The Alternative News

By Gafar Alabi,

The Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has urged the newly elected executives of the Association of Primary School Headteachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON) to embrace innovation in order to strengthen and improve basic education in Public Primary Schools across the State.

Chairman of SUBEB, Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, gave the charge while receiving the new executives at the Board Secretariat Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, calling on them to chart a new course that would prioritise pupils’ academic excellence.

Ifede emphasised the need to boost enrolment in public primary schools, stressing that learners must be equipped with strong reading, writing and communication skills to attract more enrollment.

“When pupils can read and write effectively, it supports their performance in other subjects, including Mathematics. That is the area I want you to focus on,” he said.

He further charged members of the Association of Primary School Teachers of Nigeria (APSTON) to instill confidence and boldness in Pupils of Public Primary Schools across the State to enhance academic excellence, advising the Headteachers to intensify supervision and monitoring of teachers.

Earlier, State Chairman of AOPSHON, Alhaji Tajudeen Adeosun, expressed appreciation to the State government under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun for what he described as remarkable strides in the education sector.

He highlighted key achievements of the administration, including the construction and renovation of classrooms with the state’s signature yellow roofs, the digitalisation of the education system through the DiPER platform, the distribution of electronic tablets to public primary schools across the State, among others.

Adeosun pledged the association’s unalloyed support and cooperation with the government, noting that AOPSHON remains the only legally recognised body representing the interests of Headteachers in Ogun State and Nigeria at large.
